patty melt

A cheesy, meaty and delicious patty melt all made in a cast iron skillet…perfect for a cold winters night meal!!
The Hubby’s Patty Melt (from Michelle at halfbakedlife)
Serves 4
A cheesy, meaty and grilled sandwich that is less than 10 WW+ points and a worth every point it is.

Patty Melt
1 lb extra lean ground beef
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp butter
8 slices thin sourdough bread
4 slices American cheese
1/2 cup Not so “Secret” Sauce
1 cup Caramelized Onions

No so “Secret” Sauce
4 tbsp Dijon mustard
4 tbsp low fay mayonnaise
1 tbsp no fat barbecue sauce

Caramelized Onions
1 tbsp butter
2 medium onions, thinly sliced

Patty Melts
1.In a large bowl combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder
2.Shape into 4 oval patties, roughly the size of your bread
3.In a large cast iron skillet cook patties over medium heat until browned on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side
4.Remove patties to a plate and reserve
5.Coat one side of all 8 slices of bread with butter
6.Divide “secret” sauce between all 8 slices on the no butter side
7.Divide caramelized onions between 4 bread slices
8.Top onions with 1 patty and 1 slice of cheese
9.Top with remaining bread
10.Heat cast iron skillet to medium
11.Working in batches cook sandwiches, flipping each once until golden brown and heated through, about 3 minutes per side
12.Serve & ENJOY!!

Not so “Secret” Sauce
1.(yields about 1/2 cup)
2.In a small bowl combine Dijon mustard, mayonnaise and BBQ sauce and stir to combine
3.Sauce can be stored for up to 3 days in the refrigerator

Caramelized Onions
1.(yields about 1 cup)
2.In a cast iron skillet melt butter
3.Add onions, cook stirring occasionally until onions are soft and browned. about 20-30 minutes

Each sandwich is 9 WW+ points
